East Anglia and east Midlands residents ‘among greenest’
East Anglia and the east Midlands are in the top three greenest regions in the country, with a survey revealing residents among the most willing to spend on environmental improvements to their homes.
Some 74 per cent of residents of East Anglia and 73 per cent from the east Midlands have already made green improvements including insulating their homes better or installing microgeneration devices.
Across the UK, the survey by the Co-operative Bank revealed that households expect to spend on average £551.75 this year to make the improvements.
The most popular change was installing energy-saving light bulbs, a move 60 per cent said they were considering.
This was followed with adding loft and cavity insulation (40 per cent) and installing double glazing (25 per cent).
"People are really starting to sit up and take notice of green issues in relation to their homes," said John Barker, head of mortgages at the Co-op.
