West Sussex promotes rubbish as a resource
Submitted on April 17, 2008
The West Sussex County Council has issued a guide to rubbish disposal which suggests that waste management strategies could use waste as a resource.
For Better Tomorrows, the green guide published by the county has as a theme Turning Rubbish into a Resource.
It says: "There is now a growing consensus that rubbish should be considered as a valuable resource and that the amount we landfill must be reduced.
"To extract resources from rubbish various systems exist which either use mechanical, biological or thermal treatments."
The guide argues for the creation of new treatment facilities in West Sussex and notes that a new Materials Recycling Facility under construction will help increase the amount of materials that can be collected and recycled.
Alongside tips on reducing, reusing and recycling, the guide features information on saving water and volunteers who can help people and communities reduce the amount of rubbish going to bins.
