Hertfordshire compost company gets WRAP support
A Hertfordshire composting firm has been receiving funding and advice from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
Cumberlow Compost Services of Royston is among eight compost sites the WRAP is supporting.
According to the organisation, the sites could increase their composting capacity by up to 120,000 tonnes per year.
The organisation claims that if the firms boost their capacity as expected, the UK will be composting 3.5 million tonnes per year.
WRAP provides investment for firms throughout the UK to increase their composting capacity, and affirms that increasing the amount of food waste processed in this way will cut down the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Lowering the waste sent to landfill helps municipal authorities keep within their landfill allocations and avoid the fines.
Another concern for composting companies is the need to comply with the Animal By-products Regulations which requires enclosed composting in distinct stages.
