Eco-towns ‘enjoying public support’
Despite the controversy surrounding the development of eco-towns, support for the projects is strong, it has been claimed.
According to research released by housing minister Caroline Flint, backing for eco-towns - which use green technology such as renewable energy sources to a greater extent than traditional developments - outnumbers opposition by five to one, with 46 per cent of adults questioned saying they were in favour of them.
Ms Flint stated: "We recognise that some people do have concerns, but this research underlines the real recognition among the general public … for the idea of an eco-town in the local area."
According to recent reports in the Telegraph, however, groups from across the UK are set to protest in Downing Street over the proposed eco-towns, following a warning from the Campaign to Protect Rural England that there was a "worrying lack of evidence" they would offer sustainable lifestyles.
