Incinerator map planned for east of England
A map of all current and proposed incineration sites across the UK has been released by an opposition group in an effort to redirect government funding into other waste disposal methods.
Letsrecycle.com reported that the UK Without Incineration Network (UK Win) and Friends of the Earth have collaborated on the campaign.
The newly-published map features more than 100 locations of current and planned waste incineration sites - such as Peterborough, as well as Newhaven in East Sussex and locations in the south-east.
UK Win is set to use the map as a pressure tool to attempt to redirect government focus to recycling resources as opposed to the incineration of waste that is potentially recyclable.
However, a spokesperson from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs stated that the development up new incineration facilities in the UK should not deter local councils from making efforts to promote composting and recycling.
Meanwhile, Channel 4 revealed earlier this week that there are plans to construct up to 30 new incinerator plants across Britain.
