Peterborough clean tech car unveiled
A Peterborough-registered firm showed off a clean technology all electric vehicle which makers claim competes with the Aston Martin DB9.
The Lightning GT was showcased at the British International Motor Show last Thursday by Iain Sanderson.
Powered by four electric motors in its wheels, sleek car races from nought to 60 mph in under four seconds, and reaches a top speed of 130 mph.
The car, which is powered by a series of batteries that can be charged in less than ten minutes for a 180-mile ride, started off as the brainchild of businessman Iain Sanderson, who started putting together a team in 2006.
"It is aimed at the motorist who wants to make a clear, environmental statement," Mr Sanderson told the Daily Mail.
"The underlying concept is that if you really want motorists to switch to green, electric motoring, you have to make it exciting."
He added that he plans for deliveries of the car to begin in 2010.
