One company is set to be the first in the Midlands or East of England to have timber frame designs for homes which achieve level five of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Kestrel Timber Frame of Lincolnshire has designs for energy-efficient homes that meet government standards.

In a bid to meet targets of all new constructions being zero carbon by 2016, the government established the Code For Sustainable Homes which ranks homes on a scale from one to six stars.

Kestrel, which is based near Peterborough, will allow homes to be built to level five.

Originally Kestrel produced timber frames for the Larkfleet Group, though they will now be available to other customers.

James Gilligan, who is managing the development of the business said: "We are now able to offer customers cost-effective timber frames to meet Code 5 requirements, along with design advice on such things as windows and ventilation which are also covered by the Code."

He added: "We are ensuring that Kestrel meets the highest environmental standards by purchasing all our timber from certified sustainable sources."
