Technologies

There’s no getting away from the essential role of technology in moving from the Industrial Revolution model of delivering the services we need to a model in which human activities are compatible with and indeed beneficial to living systems and geo-atmospheric cycles of all kinds. The successive waves of innovation over the past 250 years in the way we transform resources for our needs have made life easier, healthier and more diverse for those in industrialised countries, but this has incurred the accumulative rundown in and damage to the natural capital on which it all depends.

The turn of the last century saw the beginnings of a new industrial revolution, characterised by the search for different ways of engineering our resources to provide for needs, and a re-evaluation of what those needs are. Accompanying this, there was also a keener appreciation of the need to clean up land, water and air which had been compromised over many decades, and to control the outputs of the old technologies still in use, with new approaches being researched and implemented.

This section of Environment East summarises the technologies, products and services being developed or offered by companies in the East of England which are at the leading edge of this change in approach. More information can be obtained by clicking on the button at the end of each item.

This is a dynamic field, so these entries will be added to and amended as developments occur. We are always interested in technologies from the region and welcome interest from organisations wishing to add to this section. Material can include presentations and videos as well as technology descriptions. Contact Gareth Jones.
