An East of England company has developed a zero emissions high performance car to rival the Tesla. 0-60 in 4.0 seconds, 700+ bhp, powered by 30 standard-12 volt-size lithium titanium oxide batteries with a nanostructured anode, the extended range model will do up to 250 miles on a 10 minute charge. It also features regenerative braking using a DC motor at each wheel. There are no toxics in the batteries and the vehicle makes wide use of lightweight materials.
Three models are planned for production in 2008 - apart from the extended range, a tourer and a sports car. The price will be higher than a Tesla, but the annual savings over competitors could add up to as much as a claimed £17,000 for a London driver, with an urban cycle energy cost per mile of only 2.2p plus other benefits such as road tax exemption.
